SPRING CLEANING
The sun has arrived and my body is beginning to defrost a bit from my winter burrowing!
I’ve been on a spring detox this past week, trying to cut out the dairy, wheat, sugar, caffeine, booze, and cigarettes before the summer season. This has proven a bit more difficult here in Spain, as most meals and people revolve around the things I am trying to avoid. In Portland (keep in mind the fact that I worked at a new age grocery store), the resolution to go on a detox was always met with nothing but positive reinforcement, juicing recipes, and supplement recommendations. Spanish response to my health plans have not been so understanding and have included, “Ugh… What did you say?” “Do you have cancer?” and the stock hearty belly laugh whilst pointing. Love you guys.
I’ve been eating cleansing and healing foods, doing more yoga, drinking more water, and talking to my mother on the phone. It’s been a week and I am feeling the difference already, this morning I threw off my covers with the fervor of an easter bunny in spring heat. Mind you, the sounding of my alarm is usually met with a slight groan and maybe a whimper.
That is not to say that this has been easy. Today I was caught ogling a child biting into this huge… cinnamon cream flute and yesterday I think I confused a sweet old couple sharing a steaming cups of chocolate with a plate of churros with my widened eyes and gaping jaw.
I have also had daydreams of myself shoveling multicolored cupcakes into my mouth.
